M.E.A.N.S. (Music Education Association of North Smithfield)

All families of Middle School and High School students are members of M.E.A.N.S.; we invite you to become ‘active’ members.   It is one of very few parent volunteer organizations in existence at the Middle School and High School. It offers a way in which parents can both promote the music program and also retain some involvement as their child progresses through the grades.

M.E.A.N.S. is a parent run organization whose purpose is to foster and maintain an enthusiastic interest among parents and the community in the various phases of music in the North Smithfield School System.  It lends both its moral and financial support to the general music programs as it strives to help the Music Directors sustain the excellent music curriculum in the Middle and High Schools. M.E.A.N.S. takes pride in the large population of North Smithfield students who participate in the various music ensembles including concert band, symphonic band, jazz band, chamber choir, women’s choir, and chorus, all of which have consistently earned high ratings at state and regional festivals.

M.E.A.N.S. sponsors many fundraising activities throughout the year, the majority of which provides students with the opportunity to earn money for their own music accounts to be used for trips, festivals, and audition fees. It also conducts some fundraising whose proceeds are used to purchase equipment identified as needed in the school’s music program, as well as an annual scholarship to a graduating senior pursuing further education in the music field.

We conduct monthly meetings at the High School from September through June, assist with concerts and parades, help with uniform distributions, provide chaperones, issue newsletters, coordinate fundraisers, and track student accounts. The beauty of this organization is that a volunteer can choose the extent of his or her involvement and be a valued contributor.

Meeting dates fall on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m.  Please come and meet us at the high school cafeteria. The first meeting for the 2019-2020 school year will be September 3.
